Kid cards

Is it just me or does anyone else ever have trouble making kid cards?  I always feel like I never have any good ideas that suite a kid. Especially for boys. But Operation Write Home is having their mid-week throwdown challenge today and Kid cards is the theme.  So I got to work on this and here is what I came up with:

The branch is from the Stampin’ Up set Take care.  I have used it for lots of other projects. Seems like the owls I had fit just perfect on this branch.  🙂  The owl stamps are just something I found at Hobby Lobby. I have yet to learn how to use Copic Markers so I had to fill in the owls with chalk colors.  I still think it looks nice, but I am sure if I had Copic skills it would look MUCH better.  The tree paper is is a lovely little clearance deal I found at joann fabrics.  I think the thing that makes this card fun is the googly eyes. Don’t googly eyes on a card always make it more kid-friendly?  I think so.   It was fun to make this one and I love using these cute owls any chance I get.

Baby Banners

Hi there!

The weather here in the Chicago area has been just plain nasty.  I believe we hit a low of -19 last night. ACK!  At any rate, it makes for a very good reason to stay in and play with paper! 😉

I have a very special niece who is about to have a baby any day now so I needed to get to making a card to go with the gift I already have.  As  I looked through my supplies I realized I have only one baby stamp set and it is really not my favorite.  I believe I have had it for about 10 years.  Though I really have been just getting into the stamping full force recently, I did try my hand at this hobby back in 2003 as well.  I never did get into it then like I have now.  Anyway, I still have a few sets from that time period and it is really funny how these stamps seem “outdated” now.  Since I did not want my card to look outdated, I needed to get those creative juices flowing.  I think I was able to do just that. Check it out:

The stamp with the baby toys on a string is from the old stamp set.  T0 make it look a little more up to date, I used the tiny little banners from the Stampin’ up Show and Tell 2 Photopolymer stamp set.  I think it turned out pretty cute!  I also used the Stampin’ Up Label Love set and punch for the greeting. So I guess this goes to show, maybe I should keep those old stamp sets!!

Teen Birthday Card

Need a birthday card for a teen?  I have a super easy one to make!  I used the Gorgeous Grunge set from Stampin up’ to pull this card together in about 15 min.  I used three coordinating blues with a an ombre effect that is all the rage lately.  The colors are Island Indigo, Bermuda Bay and Pool Party. The paper is Natural Ivory and Bermuda Bay. I just used twine I had around. I finished it off with just a few candy dots in coordinating colors.  The Gorgeous Grunge set is very versatile and I find I use it on cards I never even thought would work.  Hope you like it!

Hearts on a String

A fun valentine I made using three stampin up sets: Gorgeous Grunge, Hearts a Flutter and Crazy, Mixed Up Love.

Back to the blogging world

Many years ago I kept a blog. Mostly just to give updates to my family and have a place for us to interact.  But of course, when facebook arrived it no longer seemed necessary to keep that blog.

Now I feel a new reason for putting something out in the world for all to see. Papercrafting.  For about a year and a half now I have been enjoying papercrafting in many forms. Scrapbooking, card making, gifts made from paper, banners and the list goes on.  I have noticed that many individuals use a blog to show off their wonderful creations. I thought it might be nice to do the same if I have a project worthy of posting, of course.  So I will need to learn more about blogging in general, but hopefully this can be a space where I can share ideas of what I have learned in papercrafting and also keep up with others who enjoy this hobby as much as I do!
