OWH Sketch Challenge #225 and Just Us Girls Color Challenge #241

Happy Monday!

I was too busy to post yesterday, but I did get in some crafting with two fun challenges. I started back to work today on a part time basis.  With my recent back injury I had not been working for about 5 weeks.  I wanted to get in some crafting one more time as I may not have the ability to do it so much with being back at work. I have a herniated disk and sitting is the absolute worst position for that. Of course, I sit for many hours in my job so this may prove to be a challenge. I will work part time for a few weeks and if I can’t even handle that, then surgery is like going to happen. Fingers crossed that won’t be needed!

Okay on to the crafting!  Here is the card:

Such a fun layout for the sketch challenge this week at OWH! Here is the actual sketch I used:
 photo OWHsketchchallenge225_zps2dbc311d.jpg

I kept my card pretty close to the sketch, just added more layers. I tend to really like my layers!

Over at Just Us Girls, the color challenge was to use Kraft, Orchid, and White. Pretty colors! I originally wanted to make this a love card because that is something OWH often needs, but I could not find a stamp that fit properly in the square layers. So even though there is a heart theme, it is still a birthday card. I believe it still works, what do you think?  I love the little wood veneer hearts. I really hope it will be okay for OWH because thickness can be a concern. I did try to spread them out on the card so that the thickness is equal because this is the suggestion when using raised layers or embellishments for OWH cards.

Hope you have a wonderful Monday and find some time to create this week!

OWH Midweek Throwdown, Freshly Made Sketches and Fusion Card challenges

Whew, I made a card that fits three challenges! I have never done that before! It sure was fun though! I always like to try to participate in the OWH challenges whenever I can because then I know I am consistently adding to my stash for the soldiers. This week it is to make a missing you card. After recently finding Freshly Made Sketches challenge blog, I am really enjoying the inspiration it gives me to change up the appearance of my cards.  Lastly, I just found a new challenge site and when I saw their current challenge I knew I needed to try it. This is because I had not ever made a card with the colors in the current challenge. This new one is Fusion Card Challenge.  They have three options: use their color inspiration photo, or their sketch or both!  Since I wanted to use the sketch at Freshly Made Sketches, I decided to just use their color inspiration. So check it out!

And here is the Fusion Card Challenge inspiration:

I love these bold colors! I don’t know why I don’t think to do more bold colors in my cards. Maybe this will spark a change in me! I am also trying to use different techniques whenever I can so I remember to use all the goodies I have in my craft room! This time I used my paper piercing set. I have very rarely used it and I really like that little extra something it adds to the card. Hope you like it too and if you haven’t tried paper piercing, give it a try. You could really make all kinds of designs with it! As you can probably tell I turned my sketch  a different direction. I kept trying to put together exactly as shown and it just did not look right to me. When I made it all go long ways it just seemed to fit.  Sometimes that is how it goes!!

Happy Crafting everyone!

Create with Cathy and Mary Color Challenge and Tags at my Pumpkin Challenge

Happy Mothers Day!!

I hope all the mothers out there are getting to do something they enjoy today! I am not a mom, but I am a Stepmom and a pet mom so I am still going to celebrate by doing some crafting. 🙂

I woke up with some back pain, but I was still ready to create and even had some ideas in my head! I noticed the Pumpkin challenge is posted and it is to make tags. This totally makes sense as we received some tags in our April Paper Pumpkin Kit. With that said, I have to admit I am not much of a tag person.  I don’t have many actual gifts I give out these days as I am usually giving cash. That is why cards are my go to craft.  At any rate, I decided to see if I could make a card with some tags on it! I also needed some inspiration for what I wanted the card to look like. I got just that over at Create with Cathy and Mary. Their current challenge is to use the following colors:  Calypso Coral, Bermuda Bay and Daffodil Delight. Ooooh what a pretty color combination!!  I needed to make a birthday card for a little lady and she is just as bright and happy as these colors so it was a marriage made in heaven!

I hadn’t used my FAVORITE Stampin up set in a while – good ole Gorgeous Grunge. It is so funny to think that before I got that set I wavered on whether or not I would use it enough – HA! Anyway, I always love how that set gives a card some pizzazz! I was also able to pull out my new Honeycomb embossing folder I got with my last Stampin’ Up order. I can already tell I will put that to good use. Hope you like the card and that you get to create something today!

Supplies used:

  • Inks: Calypso Coral and Bermuda Bay
  • Paper: Daffodil Delight, Bermuda Bay and Whisper White
  • Stamps: Glitter Greetings Photopolymer Stamps from March 2014 Paper Pumpkin, Gorgeous Grunge and the sentiment is from Really Good Greetings
  • Tools: Sunburst Die and Honeycomb embossing folder
  • Embellishments:  Candy dots in Calypso Coral, Bermuda Bay and Daffodil Delight and the ribbon is actually Tangerine Tango but I thought it looked close enough

Happy crafting everyone!

Freshly Made Sketch challenge #135 and C&CC Rock-A-Bye Baby Challenge

I was able to get some crafting in today and decided to go looking for challenges.  I found two that sounded fun.  Over at Freshly Made Sketches there is an adorable sketch that I used as my template.  At Catherine & Cathy Create the cards challenge for this month is to make a baby card.  I have only one baby stamp set so I got to work on figuring out how I could use it with the Sketch challenge and here is what I came up with:
 photo 33d04378-ef05-4ce7-aa1e-80a8e76d14d2_zps48f2a8e0.jpg

Here is the sketch used for this challenge:

I still have a few pages of the Stampin’ Up Sale-A-Bration freebie paper I received so I thought that would be the perfect combo for a baby card. I tried to pick colors that would make it either for a boy or a girl because I don’t have a need for a baby card now. It will be nice to have one ready to go for when I do! It is a cute little card and was fun to make.

Supplies used:

  • Ink: Stampin’ Up Sahara Sand and Pool Party marker
  • Paper: Stampin’ Up Sale-A-Bration patterned paper (no longer available), Stampin’ Up Pool Party and Crisp Cantaloupe. Paper Studio white card base.
  • Tools: Stampin’ Up Decorative Dots embossing folder, Stampin’ Up Sunburst Die and Circle Die, Stampin’ Up banner punch and a Corner Punch.
  • Emblishments: White Ribbon

Happy Saturday Everyone!

OWH Midweek Throwdown – April Showers bring May Flowers

Over at OWH the midweek throwdown is to make a card with flowers.  I had some ideas brewing in my head about what to make, but just got to make it tonight.  This challenge actually made me realize that I have very few stamp sets with flowers in them!  Well, I took care of that right quick and put in an order through my Stampin’ Up demonstrator for the Petite Petals Bundle.  🙂  But until that arrives, I will just have to use what is in my stash.  I do have the Mixed Bunch set from Stampin’  Up so I pulled that out and got to work:

 photo eb8554c0-2c1c-4f61-b111-448a90c9370e_zps2a9660cd.jpg

For the most part this was a pretty simple card. A little fussy with the cutting of the strips, but overall easily done. I tend to like to make things look a bit more contemporary which I believe is why I lean more toward non-flower stamp sets. This is not to say flowers can’t look totally current and now, but I just have more trouble creating them in that way. The block design and tiered stripes I used on this card was my attempt to make a contemporary look. So did I pull it off?

Supplies used (All Stampin’ Up Products):

  • Inks: Calypso Coral, Pool Party and Sahara Sand
  • Stamps: Mixed Bunch and Just Sayin’
  • Tools: Word Bubbles die
  • Emblishments: Candy Dots in the same colors as the inks used
  • Paper: Caylpso Coral and Pool Party with a white card base

Hope everyone is getting their weekend off to a great start!
